Our Story

When Ran and Mark matched in early 2022, neither of them was in a rush, which turned out to be exactly the right speed.

They took their time, getting to know each other gradually as friends, neither quite ready to dive into a relationship just yet. Along the way they discovered they had more in common than their app's algorithm had bargained for, including the small-world revelation that their professional circles overlapped through former colleagues. Slowly, a friendship became something more. Two self-proclaimed workaholics who somehow found time for each other between back-to-back meetings, they built something real over shared adventures, supporting each other through understanding far too much about each other's work-life, a mutual love of their beloved pets, a naively idealistic view of doing things right, and the patience to root cause everything down to the source.

Together they've chased sunsets at Coachella, explored snowy mountains and hot summers of Japan, ate the spiciest of hot pots in Szechuan, attended enough destination weddings to be inspired to host their own, and posed (very seriously) with No-Face at a Studio Ghibli exhibit. There's always somewhere new on the list, and it's always better together.

The proposal came quietly, on a Bodega Bay weekend, with the whole family in attendance.

Mark packed up Ran, Kona their dog, and Dafu their cat (who had strong opinions about the car ride), and drove up the coast to a bay-side rental. With the water outside and their two animals providing a suitably opinionated audience, he asked. No crowd, no fanfare. Just the four of them, a view of the bay, and a yes.

Now they're taking the slightly larger crew (the human members, at least) to Bali to celebrate with everyone they love. September 12, 2026. We hope you'll be there.

Things to Do in Bali

If you're making the trip all the way to Bali, you might as well make the most of it! Here's a quick guide to help you plan your time on the island.

The Island at a Glance

South Bali (Uluwatu, Seminyak, Canggu, Kuta) — This is where the wedding is! Uluwatu is famous for its dramatic cliffs, world-class surf, and stunning sunsets. Seminyak and Canggu are more cosmopolitan — great restaurants, beach clubs, and nightlife. Kuta is the busy tourist hub with buzzing markets.

Central Bali (Ubud) — The cultural heart of the island. Rice terraces, traditional arts, temples, and the famous Sacred Monkey Forest. About 1.5–2 hrs from the south, depending on traffic.

East Bali (Candidasa, Amed, Sidemen) — Less touristed and more serene. Gorgeous coastlines, snorkelling, diving, and lush hillside scenery. A great escape if you want to get off the beaten path.

How Long Should I Stay?

Minimum: 5–7 days — Enough to explore the south and squeeze in a day trip to Ubud.

Ideal: 10–14 days — You can leisurely cover south, central, and east Bali, with time to slow down and actually relax.

If you're staying longer: Consider a night or two in the Gili Islands (accessible by fast boat from Padang Bai) or a side trip to Lombok for even more adventure.

Why September is Perfect

September falls right in Bali's dry season — expect warm, sunny days with very little rain. It's one of the best months to visit: good weather, manageable crowds (peak tourist season is July–August), and lush green landscapes from the earlier rains. It's honestly one of our favourite times to be there.

Pro Tips

Rent a scooter — It's the easiest and most fun way to get around, especially in the south. Plenty of rental places charge very little per day.

Hire a driver for longer trips — For a full day to Ubud or the east, a private driver is affordable and far more comfortable than navigating yourself. Grab or GoJek apps work great for shorter rides too.

Catch a sunset at Uluwatu Temple — Right near the wedding venue, this clifftop temple is one of Bali's most iconic spots. The traditional Kecak fire dance at sunset is unforgettable.

Eat everywhere — Bali's food scene is incredible, from fresh local warungs to world-class restaurants. Don't miss a bowl of babi guling (suckling pig) or nasi goreng for breakfast.

Carry cash — Many smaller restaurants and markets prefer cash. ATMs are widely available but use trusted ones inside banks or malls.

Frequently Asked Questions

We're still sorting out many of the finer details and will keep this page updated as things come together. In the meantime, if you have a question that isn't answered here, feel free to reach out to us directly. We're always happy to chat.

What's the dress code?

We're still working on the details, so check back closer to the date! We'll also include it in the formal invitation.

How do I stay updated on wedding news?

We have three ways to keep you in the loop:

This website. Your go-to for all wedding details. We'll keep it updated as things come together, so it's worth bookmarking and checking back every now and then.

Email. We'll send announcements and important updates directly to your inbox so you don't miss anything.

WhatsApp group. A space for guests to help each other out, coordinate hangouts, and stay on top of any last-minute changes. Join the group here.

Do you have a registry?

No registry. Having you there is the only gift we need. Truly. We know many of you are traveling a long way to be with us, and that means everything. Your time, your energy, and your presence on the day are more than we could ask for.

When should I fly in? How long should I stay?

We're personally flying out from the US on September 5th and heading home on September 14th. The wedding itself is on the 12th, with the venue reserved from September 11–14. If you can swing it, arriving early or staying later means more time to hang out together, and honestly that's the part we're most looking forward to.

We've also done some early research on Bali if you need a starting point for trip planning. Check out the Things to Do tab!
